Information Circular No 33/2013: HADDINGTON ROAD AGREEMENT – CHANGES TO PENSIONS IN EXCESS OF €32,500

By Industrial Relations Officer

The Pensions of Enlisted Personnel of the Defence Forces Who Retired – Before the Previous Grace Period – End of February 2012:         Had their pensions calculated on their 2010 pre-cut pay rates and were subject to a Public Service Pension Reduction of about 4%.

From 1st March 2012 and Personnel Who Will Retire Before the End of August 2014: Their pensions were calculated on their reduced pay levels – this reduced their pensions by about 7% on average.

The Haddington Road Agreement 2013 – 2016 introduced further pension contributions – ranging from 2% to 5% on higher pension rates.  However, the Department of Public Expenditure & Reform (DPER) confirmed that NO contributions will be sought from those on pensions of €32,500 or less.

The above reductions in Public Servants Pensions as a result of the Haddington Road Agreement 2013 – 2016 will NOT apply to PDFORRA members as no enlisted member of the Defence Forces are paid annual pensions above €32,500.
