Information Circular No 09/2020: – COVID-19 Discussions with Department of Defence

Correspondence has been initiated between the Department and PDFORRA regarding a number of issues related to the Covid- 19 outbreak.

PDFORRA has raised issues associated with the provision of Personal Protective Equipment, training associated with the use of any equipment supplied, observations regarding practices within other emergency services, payments of allowances, technician pay and Leave entitlements/ timelines.

Doubtless, other issues will arise in the coming weeks and PDFORRA remains committed to making representations our member’s behalf. PDFORRA HQ will remain open for the duration. All calls placed during working hours 09:00 -18:00, will be answered, or in the event of heavy call volumes, messages left will be responded to. Any calls to HQ outside of these times will be returned as soon as practicable.

District and Regional Representatives should ensure that a log is kept of all duties for future reference.

Additionally, PDFORRA has sought a meeting with the Minister with Responsibility for Defence to appraise him of members concerns and measures that should be adopted to alleviate pressures that members may be encountering presently. Moreover, PDFORRA is receiving regular briefings from the Assistant Chief of Staff regarding developments as they arise.

The Association has been advised that PMAS will continue to operate, although some additional protocols are in place at Kingsbridge Hospital to ensure patient safety.

As members of the Defence Forces, the information you disseminate through social media or other forms has the potential to impact on the general public and your comrades. Please make yourself aware of the Defence Forces Social Media policy and the implications for breaches.

PDFORRA will update members as soon as a response is received from the Department to the questions set out in our correspondence.
