CLARIFICATION OF MEDICAL EXAMINATION CRITERIA

RECOMMENDATION FOR PROMOTION

A’ Administrative Instruction Part 10, Para 344 (e) refers;

“have completed an annual medical examination within twelve months of the date on which the Promotion Competition is first advertised.”

 “Where application is made by an NCO serving overseas, he/she will be assessed on his/her Overseas Medical Examination, completed within twelve months of the date on which the Promotion Competition is first advertised.”

 “In the event that personnel have NOT completed a medical, special exemption will be given by DHRB to permit the individual to complete for competition and to report for interview.”

 “However, under NO circumstances will an individual be promoted or considered for a promotion appointment unless they achieve the required medical grade and classification for the appointment necessary.”

This Administrative Instruction clearly outlines that where an individual does NOT have an Annual Medical completed, that individual MUST complete such Medical prior to the date of first advertisement.

PDFORRA has been informed of instances where of Unit Commanders have NOT recommended individuals for promotion, due to the absence of a current Annual Medical, this practice is incorrect.
