Information Circular No 23/2018: Members Recruited into the Defence Forces – Post 1994 Reminder – Claim for Continuance in Service for Cooks

By Industrial Relations Officer

Previous Information Circular 11/2018 refers:

PDFORRA wishes to advise its members that following lengthy discussions with the Department of Defence, post 1994 members who are serving in appointments as Cooks – as outlined in DFR CS4 – will now be allowed to continue in service in the Permanent Defence Forces to age 50 once the following conditions are met:

  • Must have successfully completed two of the mandatory training modules, or a course of equivalent qualification, sanctioned and approved by the Director of Training.
  • Must have completed four (4) years service as Cooks – the commencement date of which begins on completion of the first of the two mandatory training modules.
  • Must satisfy all standard requirements as to continuance in service i.e. IT Tests, ARP’s, Medical, Conduct Ratings etc.

In relation to those PDFORRA members NOT currently filling DFR CS4 Appointments as Cooks:

  • PDFORRA has secured the same entitlements for our members employed as Cooks NOT currently within the CS4 Appointments as outlined above. In this regard, the details of these personnel have already been forwarded to the Department.
  • NO details of non-members of this Association have been forwarded to the Department. Consequently, this claim does NOT capture non-members of PDFORRA.

A window of three (3) months now remain to allow PDFORRA include additional names from the date of this Information Circular.

If you are one of those members who are outside of the CS4 establishment and feel that your name may not have been included, please contact PDFORRA HQ immediately.

This agreement will NOT extend to those employed as Cooks who do not complete the second mandatory training module.

Please note, this agreement addresses continuance in service matters only, and is NOT applicable to any pay element which will be dealt with separately.
